[In the Mix] March 2015

This image is from my photograph day in Krabi. How gorgeous are these colors?! These pictures are saving my sanity as I patiently wait for spring to finally come. This month's playlist is an accumulation of tracks my sister or brother downloaded onto our shared iTunes account, 8tracks, and hitting shuffle on my iTunes songs. I know, I never thought I'd see the day when Kanye made his way on my "In the Mix" playlists, but I really like this song, and I really like his voice singing.

Cute Little Love Songs

This is the week of love! Valentine's Day is by far my favorite holiday despite having been single for it every year. From the hearts to the gestures to the cheese, I soak it all in. To start off Valentine's Week, here is a list of some of my favorite cute, little love songs. You know, the kind that make you all giggly and happy...

"At the Beginning"
Donna Lewis | This will be my wedding song. Sung live. In Spanish. Or Italian.

"Bubbly"
Colbie Caillat | What a cute way to sing about an orgasm!

"Come On Get Higher"
Matt Nathanson | This song makes me picture a couple lounging around on a wintry day in huge knit socks, boxers, and T-shirts with a fire and tea.

"Countdown"
Beyonce | Doesn't this song just make you happy?

"Gone, Gone, Gone"
Phillip Phillips | I always loved the idea of loving someone after death because if true love is eternal, shouldn't it transcend death?

"Heaven's Door"
Eric Nam | The Korean version. The English is too cheesy for me.

"House Party"
Sam Hunt | Basically my idea of the perfect night.

"Just the Way You Are"
Bruno Mars | There's a reason this catapulted Bruno fame!

"Kiss Me"
Sixpence None the Richer | Whimsical and beautifully descriptive.

"If You Wonder"
Jeff Bernat | Still obsessed with this song. Can't wait to see him at the Seoul Jazz Festival!

"I'll Be"
Edwin McCain | Yes, this song does remind of A Cinderella Story, and yes, that scene is utterly perfect. Where did the CMM characters go?

"Lovebug"
Jonas Brothers | It makes me wanna skip along a sidewalk on a bright spring day. Right...? Right?!

"Love is Easy"
McFly | It uses dialogue from It's a Wonderful Life, 'nough said.

"My My Love"
Joshua Radin | Such a beautiful song! It's the perfect writing song.

"Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now"
The Starting Line | I heard this song watching a Youtube compilation of the main couple from the "Ouran High School Host Club" anime when I was sixteen. It's a cover of an eighty's song, and it reminds me of said couple all the time!

"On Top of the World"
Imagine Dragons | Just. Perfection.

"Perfect Two"
Auburn | How cute is this song?!

"Rhythm of Love"
Plain White T's | You're caught the moment the first beat starts.

"Stay Here Forever"
Jewel | From the movie, Valentine's Day. How do you not love a sunny Jewel?

"Stay, Stay, Stay"
Taylor Swift | I mean if I added ever T. Swift song about love, this list would be long. This is one of the funniest, simplest ones, and the tune will get stuck in your head.

"Thinking Out Loud"
Ed Sheeran | Is it cheesy if I describe a song as breathtaking? Oh well. From the music video to the lyrics to the rhythm, I just wanna ballet dance under the stars...

"Tip Toes"
Jayme Dee | If this song doesn't make you happy...

오늘부터 1일
K. Will | One of the lyrics in this song translates to "I'm the best looking of the average guys." Cute, right?!

우리 잘 될것 같아 (ft. G.NA)
BB Boyz | Shame this group never quite got off the ground. The title translates to, "We'll be okay," and it's just an adorable song about love.

Sound off! What cute, little love songs make you feel on bubbly and smiley?

[In the Mix] January 2015

January has been quite an interesting mix for my musical tastes. A lot of it has to do with sharing an iTunes account with my siblings, and thus getting a lot of interesting songs popping up in my Recently Added playlist. I've been in one of those dreamy, romantic moods, probably with the cold and the new year. I just love playing lovey songs in the morning when I'm getting ready. Of course, on the flip side some new K-pop and some dancing songs have crept their ways into my playlist as well. Nothing gets you through a Blogilates booty workout like "Wiggle Wiggle." Anyhow, check it out! I've put everything into an 8tracks playlist, which you can listen to right here

Don't
Ed Sheeran | So catchy.

Dear Future Husband
Meghan Trainor | This is such a tongue-in-cheek song!

My My Love
Joshua Radin | It's from "Vampire Diaries." So beautiful.

If You Wonder
Jeff Bernat | I'm a little in love!

Uptown Funk
Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars | This song is fantastic.

Title
Meghan Trainor | I love these messages she's got.

Up & Down
EXID | This has renewed popularity in Korea, and it's so. damn. catchy.

Thinking Out Loud
Ed Sheeran | Another beautiful song.

The Wire
HAIM | Came up on my 8tracks. Obsessed!

Wiggle Wiggle
Hello Venus | Terrible music video and dance. Catchy workout song.

Love on Top
Beyonce | A friend danced to this, and now it's stuck in my head!

Doses & Mimosas
Cherub | One of my siblings downloaded this, and I kind of love it.

Be My Baby
The Barberettes | A Korean doo-wop group, need I say more?

Dancing in the Moonlight
Toploader | I've only just heard this song!

[In the Mix] Lunafly

If this doesn't melt your heart on this winter day, I don't know what will. Currently checking out all their other songs and covers. Side note: The blonde is half-Korean, half-British. Which means yes, he speaks with a British accent, and he has this voice. I always thought Sam Squared would be a cute couple name ;)

Playhouse EDM Festival

So this past weekend I made another trek to Seoul to attend the 2014 Playhouse EDM Festival. Basically, one of the teachers here in Namwon has a friend from home who now works in Singapore as an event organizer, and this was her event. The festival was Friday night and Saturday night at the Kintex 2 Exhibition Center in Goyang, which is within the Seoul metro.

Let me put this out there, I wasn't even aware that "EDM" was an acronym until I heard it on the FungBro's videos, and this was my first time ever attending anything like this. I had an absolute blast, and the DJs were awesome. Let's just put it this way. My arms and legs were incredibly sore on my bus ride back to Namwon on Sunday. I didn't get to the venue until about midnight on Friday, and eleven on Saturday, so I missed the earlier acts, but the ones I did see were incredible. Some of them would even come out into the crowd for a bit to dance, like Luney Tunez (who I'm so bummed I missed!).

Bonus: Our friend's friend, the organizer, hooked us up with VIP the second night which was super nice. The other tables even became friendly as the night went on.

W H E R E  T O  S T A Y:
I stayed at Hotel Violet, right near Exit 3 of Daehwa Station (Line 3), and I thought it was lovely. I split a room with another teacher, and I think it came out to maybe 40,000 won a night. We took a taxi to the venue (it was only around 3,000 won) and the subway to the Hotel was a straight (albeit long) shot from the Express Bus Terminal. Let me just say, our bathroom had a waterfall shower head. And it was heaven.

Besides that it had a double bed, a couch, a flat screen TV, a full sized mirror, and plenty of amenities that apparently all Korean hotels have (everything from a hair straightener to toothpaste). I did find it funny that we had curtains up against a blank wall, and I will say my one issue is that the walls are thin. I could hear all sorts of noises during the night. The kind where you wake-up thinking the TV is on, but it's someone in another room talking.
With DJ Thomas Newson. You can get an idea of my dress
the second night. I only brought one evening-ish dress to Korea...
W H A T  T O  W E A R:
Well, this is tricky because Koreans kind of do their own thing when it comes to dressing for anything, ever. You got everything from a flower headband to a sweater vest, so there's that. It was warm in the venue, but not suffocatingly hot. I wore a dress both nights and some Chucks, and I was actually pretty comfortable for the most part. But hey, if you wanna roll up in a turtle neck, jeans, and heels, you won't look out of place. Heck, the guy having the most fun in VIP had on a sweater my brother would wear to church!

H O W  T O  G E T  T H E R E:
Just taxi from wherever you're staying. It's so much easier. Hotel Violet had a taxi stand right outside its doors, and it cost maybe 3,000 won. They will charge you around 10,000 won on the way back though because it's 4 a.m., and they know you can't get home otherwise.

My Favorite 2014 Korean Songs

Is it just me or has the K-pop market really become overly saturated in the past few years? I can't tell if it's me outgrowing the bubblegum pop or if the quality of K-pop music really has gone down quite a bit. Maybe a small combination of both? I know in 2013 and a large part of 2014, I wasn't listening to anything new in Korean really. I didn't even know SNSD had a single out this year until much later in the game, and they're my favorite group!

With that said, the summer after I graduated, I found myself searching for Korean music once again (maybe in anticipation of my return?), and while I still found myself listening to some pretty subpar vocals and confusingly bad tunes, I was pleasantly surprised to find some gems within the music shows. So here's a run down of my favorite 2014 songs. Keep in mind these are just my personal favorites. I have not listened to every K-pop song released in 2014, so if you think I'm missing any--let me know! I'd love to discover new music!

"Mr. Ambiguous" | Mr. 애매모호
Mamamoo
Best new rookie group of the year, hands. down.

"Ooh, Ooh" | 우,우
Eric Nam
This song is just so fun!

"1 Day" | 오늘부터1일
K. Will
Too precious, and the video is adorable.

"Go Crazy" | 미친거 아니야?
2 PM
Reminiscent of their "Hands Up" days!

"Darling" | 달링
Girls' Day
Don't watch the video, enjoy the cuteness of the song. It keeps playing at my elementary schools, and it's gotten stuck in my head!

"Angel"
Yoon Mi Rae ft. Tiger JK & Bizzy
I love these three together, and this new, softer effort is lovely.

"8 Dayz"
Megan Lee
This was such a refreshing summer song.

"Eyes"
SNSD-TaeTiSeo

This is my favorite from their new album, though I liked "Holler" more than it seems everyone else did. Another favorite is "Adrenaline."

"Can You Hear Me?" | 들리니?
Lucky J
Jessica Oh's vocals, the catchiness of this ballady-song, the rapping--all on par.

"I Did It"
Spica
Technically all in English, but Spica's awesome. And this song is actually quite empowering. No whimpering over boys or overcoming boys here.

"I'm Fine, Thank You"
Ladies Code | Can anyone else listen to this without crying? I can't.

"Touch My Body" | 터치 마이 바디
Sistar | The dance is so cringe worthy, but this song is just too much fun not to have on this list. Another awesome summer song and an even better workout song.

"At Gwanghwamun" | 광화문에서
Kyuhyun
Of course I'd have him on here ;).

"Quit Playing" | 끼부리지마
U Kiss

You know, I actually really like this song. Despite all the fuss over the video and dance and whatnot, the song is pleasant to listen to.

"Solo Day"
B1A4 | Fun song, even better video. I love the quirky thing this group has going for it.

"Happiness" | 행복
Red Velvet | Took me a while, but this song is actually really nice for some cheering up.

"Piano Man"
Mamamoo
I love this newest song! And I keep hearing it played, which makes me so happy! Mamamoo, 화이팅!

"Melt My Heart" | 녹여춰
Eric Nam
His newest song. It's reminiscent of "Heaven's Door." He acts pretty cute in it, and all I can think watching it is him thinking, "I can't believe I'm 26 and sucking on a lollipop right now. #mylife" That aside, his voice

"This is Love"
Super Junior
Love this song! I liked "Mamacita," but I loved this one.

So Good
Jay Park
Can't believe I forgot to add this initially! This was on replay all September.

[In the Mix] November 2014

Trying something a little different for the November Playlist! It's been a calm month thus far. I'm finishing decorating my apartment, getting into the swing of teaching, and planning my Korean bucket list (which will probably grow and change!). I have been doing a lot of traveling in terms of exploring Korea outside of Namwon. This month has been a mix of re-finding favorites and discovering new songs. Oh, and Taylor Swift. Because you know I was listening to "1989" on repeat when it came out. Listen to it here.

Sweater Weather
The Neighborhood | Because sweaters are all that's on my mind.

Style
Taylor Swift | "I got that red lip, classic thing that you like"

Shut Up and Dance
WALK TO MOON | I dare you to listen and not dance.

광화문에서
초규현 | "At Gwanghwamun" by Cho Kyuhyun. My favorite has a solo.

Blank Space
Taylor Swift | I liked the melody of this song, and then that MV came out!

Friday I'm in Love
The Cure | Stumbled across this from my ESL lesson planning.

Neon Lights
Natasha Bedingfield | I'm glad she's gotten even better from "Unwritten."

Need U (100%)
Duke Dumont ft. A*M*E | I think I'm likin' this Duke Dumont character.

I Wish You Would
Taylor Swift | Hey, I warned you she'd have a prime spot!

Love is Easy
McFly | Repeat, and why not? Still love that it uses It's' a Wonderful Life.

Here (In Your Arms)
HelloGoodbye | I used to use this song as a pump up song for swimming. Still so fun.

Jealous
Nick Jonas | Never thought a Jonas brother would make it on this list!

0330
U-KISS | A more ballad-y song for the winter months.

Good Day
Nappy Roots | Awesome morning song.

Sun Shy
Dresses | Such a stare-out-the-window-on-a-long-bus-ride song.

Lips are Movin'
Meghan Trainor | Girl is more than dat bass.

11.09.2014

Jam. Out.

This song is awesome, enjoy your dance break.

10.27.2014

Because Taylor Swift, Duh

Her new album is finally out! Go buy it, fool. And if you're near a Target (unlike me), go get the Deluxe version!

[In the Mix]: October 2014

Ah, October 2014. It's been a crazy month so far. Finishing at my last job, visiting college once more, moving across the world, starting a brand new job in a brand new field... It's been fun! Of course, with long periods of travel comes a lot of music. I've mostly been revisiting old favorites or discovering old songs. A few new ones but mostly older ones. Some remind me of the last time I lived abroad; others I have simply not heard of until now.
미친거 아니야? |2 PM (Go Crazy) Love this song! It reminds me a lot of their "Hands Up" hit from 2011. They just look like they had such a blast learning the choreography and performing on stage! It's a shame they didn't win any music show awards!
"Countdown"| Beyonce- Slight throwback. This is just such a fun song!
"Welcome to New York"- Taylor Swift- I'm so freaking excited for this album!
"두근 두근"- La Boum (Pit-a-Pat)- Refreshing cutesy at its very best. I just love how fun this song is to listen to, and how unapologetically girly it is. I wouldn't do a whole playlist with songs like this, but one or two sprinkled out works just right.
"Really Don't Care"- Demi Lovato- Such an anthem song, and perfect to listen to while scraping off wallpaper! Plus you gotta love a little rap break with Cher Lloyd.
"Like I Can"- Sam Smith- His voice forever and ever... This is slightly more "upbeat" (but I feel like that's not the right word) than the others.
"Rise Up"-Diane Birch- A good morning song to listen to while making coffee and putting together an outfit for the day.
"하.니.뿐."- 2 PM- (ADTOY-All Day Thinking of You) This came out in the 2013 days I wasn't really listening to K-pop. I absolutely love it! It's kind of like 2 PM's I'm a Man now song. The dance kinda makes me laugh though. Watch the video, you'll see why.
"Sunrise"- Norah Jones-  I forgot how much I loved her voice! What is she even doing these days, anyway?
"Eyes"- TaeTiSeo- I do really like Holler, but I think the two I have on this list are my absolute favorite. I really love this sub unit--it's got a very sassy vibe to it.
"Trumpets"-Jason Derulo- Awkward song to listen to with parents, great song to jam out to by yourself. I like what you did there with musical instruments, JD.
"Out of the Woods"- Taylor Swift- OMG NEW T, SWIFT SONG!!! Just kidding. That aside, I really like this direction Swifty is going with her music. We all knew she was pretty much done with country after her first album, so it's refreshing to see her stop trying to balance country pop with pop and just going all out pop. It also seems like she's taking some serious inspiration from her birth decade, and this song is total proof of it.
"Valentino"-Diane Birch- I first heard this song in Valentine's Day, and I still like it. It's one of those easy-listening, walk to work type songs that just makes you happy.
"Wrong Feels So Right"- Carly Rae Jepsen- She needs another album stat. She takes pop to another level, and I love listening to all her girly songs.
"Flowers in Your Hair"- The Lumineers- This is my--travel along the Korean countryside and gaze out at the mountains and sunset song.
"Adrenaline"- TaeTiSeo- This is my alarm song. How can it not be?!
"Come Get It Bae"- Pharrell Williams- I don't care how stupid this song sounds from its title to its lyrics, I can't stop jammin' out to it.
"니가 필요헤"- K. Will- Slight oldie but goodie. I do love you, K. Will, I do.

9.18.2014

[In the Mix]: September 2014

It's starting to get a little colder here, and I'm just getting antsier by the day! Luckily, this month should go by pretty fast because I'll be finishing up at my retail job and visiting with friends (like this weekend!). Here are some of the songs that have been on my playlist for months or I have just discovered. Over all, it's a pretty eclectic mix!

Anyhow, I'll be in Pittsburgh for the weekend! I'm roadtripping with Mallory, and we're going to visit my big/ her sister! AKA I'll be reunited with my little Kittain. ;)
So Good- I just love Jay Park's voice! And this has a little bit of a retro feel to it (or something along the lines of MJ's "Love Never Felt So Good"). It's just a fun song to play with the windows rolled down!
Shake It Off- Because, haters gonna hate hate hate.
물 한잔- This was B1A4's comeback song, and it's just such a fun song! It's a good one for running and the gym as well. It translates, I think, to "A Glass of Water."
Break Free- As much as her brother irritated me on "Big Brother" when he started blatantly lying, and I really want her to change up her facial expressions, I love me some Ariana Grande music. This took me a few listens to get into, but now I can't stop listening! "This is the part where I BREAK FREE"
Mamacita- Oh, SuJu. Even with the "shut your tongue" line, I do love this song. Kyuhyun Oppa fo-evs.
I Swear- Now that I think about it, the tune of this song is kind of perfect in terms capturing that end of summer vibe.
All About that Bass- I love this song! It's so catchy, and it has such a good message. You can take offense to the phrase "skinny bitch" all you want, but if you think about it, it's not being rude to thinner women. It's only insulting if you're thinner and you're a bitch about it. (Think about how the book Skinny Bitch differentiates between being a Skinny Bitch and a skinny bitch!)
들리니- Jessi's voice is amazing. This song is catchy in its ballad form. The guys are on point. More please! Also Jessi was too freakin' cute on "After School Club."
Fireball- You know I love me Pitbull all day, erryday. I wish I could go to a concert!
Crazy Dreams- My favorite CU song. Actually, I also LOVE the ballad version from "SMASH."
Holler- Comeback, comeback! Their whole album IS AWESOME. My two favorite members plus the best SNSD vocalist (who I also love!)? TaeTiSeo is fantastic, and I agree, they do have a unique sound to them!
Anaconda- This song kind of frightens me a little, but I can't deny how great of a workout song it is.
Tiny Little Bows- This so brings me back to metro rides in Madrid!
Rather Be- Allison put this on one of my mix CDs a while ago, and it has started playing at work! Such a good song.
I Did It- I'm just discovering SPICA, and I can't get over their voices! I want to listen to everything from them, and I hope they do more English songs.
I'm Fine, Thank You- Such a sweet song and poignant when you think of what's happened with Ladies' Code. My prayers are with them and the deceased.
She's Mine- Another good gym song, especially Eli and AJ's rapping!
I Got U- This is another Allison remix song that's been popping up everywhere lately! I swear, girl has a future in DJing if the lawyer thing doesn't pan out.
What have you been listening to?

8.28.2014

[In the Mix]: August 2014

So, of course, I made this playlist ahead of time before "Shake It Off" and "Mamacita" came out! Suffice to say, both will be making appearances on the September playlist! (I also meant to post this two weeks ago, whoops!) As the end of summer comes (or has already come for some of my friends), here's some last minute, fun, dance-along-in-the-kitchen songs to go out with a bang.

Side note: Do any of you like to blast some fun music and dance around while you're cooking or cleaning up? I love it, but obviously not everyone does, including my family and pretty much everyone I've ever lived with. I suppose it's one of those things I look forward to when living by myself in Jeolla.

"Touch My Body"- I love this song, no matter how embarrassing it is to listen to! It's such a fun song, and it immediately gets me going a little faster in the gym when it comes on my playlist. Additionally, since they sing "body" about a trillion times, it reminds me to think about form and the bod I'm trying to achieve on the treadmill.
"Bang Bang"- SUCH A FUN SONG. Also a good running song. The mix of Ariana, Jessie, and Nicki is sheer perfection, and I LOVED their performance on the VMA's. More Jessie J, Amurica, pretty please.
"Love Never Felt So Good"- I'm an idiot, but I didn't realize this was a recently released posthumous song. It was pretty much perfect for summer and for groovin' along to in the car.
"Ooh Ooh"- Don't make fun of me, but I totally watch Arirang's "After School Club," even though I'm pretty sure I'm above the age bracket. I usually skip the Google Hangouts because they don't interest me as much as the rest of the show. I started watching when I was getting into U-Kiss and learned that Kevin speaks English (and hosts ASC!). Suffice to say, I freakin' love Eric Nam. He's hilarious on the show (like outrageous-ahjussi funny, even if he's like four years older than me). I looked him up and discovered he also has a gorgeous voice. This song is his most recent single, and it's another dance along one.
"I Do Not Hook Up"- An oldie but goodie. Are you sensing a dance-along theme to this playlist?
"Glamour Bitch" Lyric wise, this song is pretty atrocious ("bling bling thong," anyone?), but for some reason I find it so catchy! Also, if you're wondering what happened to the brunette from A Teens, this was one of her solo efforts. Little high school dancing queen she is not anymore.
"House Party"- I like very few country songs, and this is one of them. He's a fairly new artist, so look him up!
"Partition"- This is a headphones-only song. Fantastic nonetheless. Bey sneezed on that beat and it got sicker
"Dora Dora"- The dance is kind of funny in a supposed-to-be-sexy-but-I-feel-uncomfortable way. The song is pure gold. I haven't taken the time to figure out what dora dora means, though.
"Ven Conmigo"- It's the Spanish version of CA's oldie song, "Come On Over." I rediscovered it when I was organizing my iTunes library!
"Sexy Back"- You might also be sensing a theme in my workout songs. You would not be incorrect. However, this song will never, ever get old.
"Bubble Butt"- Like I said, theme... Anyhow, I only like the Korean version with GD and TOP. Probably because I don't know what they're saying in Korean, and it makes the song a little less dirty.
"Sunset Glow"- My favorite Big Bang song!
"Like I Can"- This man's voice is pure. gold.
"22"- Because I turned 22 this month!!!!!
"Ai Se Eu Te Pego"- It was played in clubs in Spain (it's Brazilian/Portuguese), and I still love it today. Plus Suju did a hilarious cover of it in their Brazilian concert.
"Free Fallin'"- Another Korean cover of a English song. I pretty much love all versions ever created, this one is no exception.

[In the Mix] She's BACK

I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake.
Shake it off. Shake it off.

I just freaking love her.

The Remix

This post is totally a throwback to one of the best songs of my childhood. I'm also going to list some lyrics and explain to you why the thought that this song is explicitly about sex never crossed my mind. Also, has anyone heard the original "Ignition?" Anyhow, here's my 8 year old break down of the lyrics:
  • "Tryna get you to a hotel/ You must be a football coach/The way you got me playin' the field"- Wow, so the singer's a football coach. That sounds fun. It must be an away game since they have to go to a hotel.
  • "Hot and fresh out the kitchen"- Geez, the kitchen must be smoky and hot. I hope they have ventilation. I set off my smoke alarm a lot too.
  • "Mama rollin' that body/ got every man in here wishin'"- Mom must be really hot in the kitchen. Maybe something went wrong, and the guys are getting hungrier and hungrier.
  • "Privacy is on the door/ Still they can hear you screamin' more"- I hate that! One time my friends and I were bouncing on the beds in a hotel room and laughing and shouting, and people could still hear us...Our parents were pretty pissed
  • "I'm bout to take my key and/ stick it in the ignition"- I guess we're going home then? Since we're driving away from the hotel. I wonder if we won the game. Or maybe we're headed to the game from the hotel since...
  • "Then after the show it's the (after party)/ and after the party it's the (hotel lobby)"- We won! That's why we're having a party right?
And, of course, if I didn't really understand the lyrics, I just ignored them! I genuinely thought this song was one of the football coaches or players singing about their cool car!

[In the Mix]: July 2014

I think I'm going to try to do this monthly since I listen to music constantly and am always either finding new songs to listen to or rediscovering old ones! If you can't tell, I'm all over the place with my music tastes. Again, this is another illustration from Inslee! I used this one because it's what I picture myself doing in July--barefoot in a pair of denim cut offs taking in the ocean breeze while my toes sink into the sand. I don't think I'll be making it to the beach this summer, but I can always imagine myself there.

"Quit Playing"- Ah! I could have honestly filled up this playlist with all their main hit songs since it took me until now to realize how awesome U-Kiss is! This was their most recent song, and I absolutely love it. I wish I had become a fan a little earlier, because you know I would've been up in NYC in the middle of that polar vortex to see them perform (though I wouldn't have waited outside just to give them high-fives...I don't do cold that well). I feel like the dance and the music video were talked about more than the actual song because the video was scandalous (not really!). You can watch it and decide for yourself. It's definitely mature for the K-pop world (then again, a world that made a song like "Hugs" by TVXQ a hit....), and I laughed at a couple of the reaction videos from K-fans. Anyhow, the song is fantastic and easy to listen to!
"Girls Chase Boys"- I just love Ingrid, and I love this song. "The Way I Am" is still on my shuffle playlists. I also kind of love songs that are a little bit sad but with an upbeat tempo... I don't know why.
"Day 1"- BEST SUMMER SONG OF 2014!!! The video makes me all kinds of gooey inside, and I'm excited K.Will finally gets to make a real appearance in his own video! The line that makes me laugh the most is when he sings, "I'm the best looking of all the average men." Ha ha. But seriously, watch the video. I dare you not to wish new romance was like this. His live performances are adorable as well!
"Live Your Life"- Because, how can you not be happy listening to this song?"Breathe"- I feel like this song gets flack for missA, but it's one of my favorites. They came with this stronger, sexier image with the debut single, "Good Girl, Bad Girl," but this song is just pure fun. And the beat is addictive.
"Solo Day"- I've loved this group since "Baby, Good Night." This is such a lazy, summery song, and it's fantastic. The video is so absurdly cute too, so watch if it you have a chance. Baro is definitely my favorite, and that was before his stint in "Reply 1994." You just don't expect that rapping voice to come out of his mouth and then BAM!
"Favorite Girl"- Such an easy, calm song. And it's pretty cute. I'm so much more receptive to gooey love songs in the summer than any other season of the year.
"Latch"- This is the greatest song everrrrr, and I can't believe it took me so long to get into it. Sam Smith's voice is pure gold, and this is a great going out song. Because, you know, I'm doing so much of that in Pottstown.
"Heartbeats"- Another calmer song. Just a nice listen, particularly closer to night time or when you're falling asleep in the car.
"Mr. Ambiguous"- Why isn't Mamamoo bigger in Korea? This song is amazing and so is their pre-debut effor with K. Will, "Peppermint Chocolate." It oozes that flirtatiousness and is utterly mature in it sound. There is no room for cutesy, aegyo here.
"Perfect Two"- Again with the cheesy but perfect love songs! This one has lines like "You're the apple to my pie, the straw to my berry." I love her voice--it's kind of lighter if that makes sense. I swear I'm in love or anything either!
"Deezy Daisy"- I searched for this song after vaguely remembering the chorus, and I finally rediscovered it when I realized Tone It Up was using it in their Bikini Series videos. Such an addictive song, and it practically shouts summer at you. It always makes me want to put a daisy crown on and dance out in some field at sunset or just go to a pool party.
"Falling for You"- I know, you're wondering, "Sam, why don't you put her fabulous new song, 'Try,' on this playlist?" Because I discovered "Try" after I made this! And, I know you're also thinking, "Wow, you weren't kidding about this lovey song crap." Listen, I eat this stuff up in the summer! It's just so cute and the thought keeps my little romantic hope bubble afloat.
"Life is Rosy"- I dare you not to go skipping outside of your house, smiling ear to ear, after listening to this song.
"Be My Escape"- Some oldies on the list! I just got into this song again, and I love how clever the lyrics and rhyme choices are.
"I Think I'm in Love With You"- I'll be a J.Simpson fan for life. I invested too much time in her back in the J&N days not to have a soft spot for her. Plus her issues with weight (especially compared to her height) are things that hit me too when I was a teenager (and now!). Besides, her shoes are the absolute best.
"Rise Up"- Because this is just the nicest song. And Diane Birch's voice is perfect.
There you have it! What's on your playlist for July?

Destiny's Child Back Together...Kinda

Well, it's Michelle William's song featuring Beyonce and Kelly Rowland. But! Look at the precious shot of them altogether. Sisterhood, man, it's a strong thing.

[In the Mix]: June 2014

I was just looking at my old "In the Mix" posts to see how I should set this playlist up, and I realized it's almost been exactly a year since I last did a post like this! Hopefully I can think to do these more often as they're pretty fun, and I obviously change up my musical preferences with the season (but seriously, I'm not even kidding!).
"8Dayz"-So obsessed with this song! It's so sweet and so cheerful. I discovered it when I was going through the weekly music Kpop shows (it's been so long since I've done that), and she immediately reminded me of a Korean Taylor Swift. Just saying, I called Kpop moving towards this direction (less manufactured Kpop and more singer/songwriter type performers). She's a Youtube singer who signed with Soul Shop Ent., and I'm pretty excited to see what she comes up with next.
"Stay with Me"- So, my siblings and I share an iTunes account with my dad, and this often means we get songs we don't necessarily want. They get K-pop and indie songs, and I get country and punkish boy band songs. However, I'm so glad my sister downloaded the whole Sam Smith album. It's been less than 24 hours, and I'm already obsessed with his voice. This song is just so sad and emotional, and yet, it has a catchy vibe to it. It's my perfect writing song.
"Now and Forever"- This was the song that made the main male lead, Joo Wan, famous in the US as a composer. It's got a jazzy vibe to it, and even though the English pronunciation is horrendous, it's unbelievably catchy.
"Pretty Brown Eyes"- I have a thing for bubblegum pop music, and this is no exception. Doesn't hurt that I have brown eyes either.
"Problem"- As if I couldn't love Ariana Grande or Iggy Azalea anymore. I didn't include "Fancy" to this list because, really, I've been jamming out to that song since March, so it's kind of faded on my summer list. This song is just so fantastic, and I already posted the video to show my obsession.
"My Oh My"- Like I'd make a playlist without SNSD. This is a Japanese song, and totally catchy in a totally bubblegum way.
"That's My Kinda Night"- I don't like country, and I love this song. You know you do too."Best I Ever Had"- Another fantastically catchy song with clever lyrics.
"Boomerang"- This was the last song on the mix CD my friend sent me, and it's one of the ones I replay constantly. You know how I am with boy bands. Even though the references are a little off (like Audrey and James Dean?), it's so perfect as a blast-in-your-car song that I can forgive it.
"Into the Blue"- Another song from the mix CD. I love Kylie.
"Hung Up"- Another mix CD song, and my favorite by far. I get so into singing along to this song that I'm pretty sure I've frightened my car neighbors.
"All the Way"- I knew of Timeflies, but for some reason I thought they were techno-y, so I didn't really give them a chance. Then all of a sudden this song came up on an 8tracks playlist, and I couldn't stop listening. It's so sweet!
"Say Yes"- This song brought Destiny's Child back together and it meshes Jesus with a dance beat. What's not to love?
"그대와 함께"- Or "With You" in English. This is a remake of a 90's song, and I got addicted from watching "Reply 1994" so fast. Plus I just find B1A4 to be absolutely precious.
"Pop a Bottle"- Another mix CD song! I swear if Allison ever wants to give up law, she could go into DJing. This song reminds me of Rita Ora, and it's such a summery song.
"I Could Give You Love"- Another slower song. It's from "I Need Romance 2012," and it's so emotional. It was played at all the sad, poignant moments, and it might be my favorite song from the franchise so far!
"바람났어"- This is a bit of an oldie from 2011, but I rediscovered it transferring songs from my old computer to my new one. I just love G-Dragon and everything he does. He's quite a genius, even if he's uncomfortable with that word!
"You Sound Good to Me"- Another super summery song that I'm addicted to. I can't wait to see what else Lucy comes up with!

Can't Stop Dancing...

...To this song! It's so fun!!
